The Tuscan interior design style is full of simple, rustic charm and inspired by the country homes of central Italy’s wine country. Traditionally, the farmhouses in this region were made out of readily available materials such as straw, limestone, clay and wood. Today, many elements come together to create warm and inviting Tuscan homes. Walls may be lime-washed, timber-beamed or roughly plastered in the attempt to capture the feel of a country farmhouse. Colors are typically natural shades taken from the Italian landscape, such as local stones and clay which range from mustard to a dusty red color. Wall stenciling may be added to create interest. The floors are usually clay tiles, wooden parquet floors (rubbed with white paint to create an aged look), natural reed matting, or Turkish, Indian, or Oriental rugs over wooden floors.
