Silverleaf Modern Mediterranean

Silverleaf Modern Mediterranean In the high end community of Silverleaf in North Scottsdale, this Classic Mediterranean home had good architectural bones with a sophisticated, elegant presentation. However, our clients were ready to refresh the look and make the house more livable for their family of five. We focused on each room/space individually, as well as the overall background materials of the interior and exterior, to bring the home to a new level of design.  Included in our design scope was a new entry staircase design, beautiful updated light fixtures throughout the house, stunning custom artwork, a redesigned fireplace wall, new wood flooring and updated furnishings. His office also received additional millwork and storage, a walk-up bar and a feature crocodile textured wall. The formal dining room was repurposed to serve as Her office, with finishes such as off-white lacquer, brushed gold and a soft blush pink wallpaper. Upstairs, a previously neglected gathering area near the secondary bedrooms became a walk-up coffee/juice bar. Outside, a new stucco color and resurfaced black swimming pool, as well as extensive landscaping, took the exterior presentation to a new level.

Moving Into the Fall Season with Luxury That Lives Well

Moving Into the Fall Season with Luxury That Lives Well As the desert sun softens and the evenings turn crisp, Arizona homes begin to shift into a richer rhythm. At Janet Brooks Design, the fall season invites us to deepen color palettes, soften edges, and create spaces that welcome gathering—without losing the airy elegance that defines Southwest living. Our guidepost remains constant: Luxury that Lives Well—design that looks exquisite and feels effortless. Designing for Seasonal Comfort Fall is the ideal time to introduce tactile layers that ground a room and make everyday moments feel luxurious. We balance the Southwest’s clean architecture with plush, human-scaled comforts so spaces invite you to linger. ✔ Layer cashmere throws, mohair pillows, and textural bouclé over leather or stone. ✔ Add hand-loomed rugs for softness underfoot and improved acoustics in open plans. ✔ Introduce warm metals—antique brass, burnished bronze—to add glow without glare. Blending Indoor and Outdoor Living Cooler temperatures reopen patios, courtyards, and terraces. We design the threshold between inside and out so the experience feels seamless, extending square footage and daily pleasure. ✔ Use large-format sliders or pocketing glass walls to dissolve the boundary. ✔ Mirror interior palettes outdoors with performance textiles and weather-safe finishes. ✔ Anchor conversation zones with fire features and dimmable, low-glare landscape lighting. Celebrating Seasonal Entertaining Autumn brings holidays, long weekends, and spontaneous dinners. We tune dining and living spaces for flow, sightlines, and comfort so hosting is easy—and unforgettable. ✔ Scale dining tables and seating for real-life comfort during long meals. ✔ Design serving zones and secondary prep space to keep kitchens uncluttered. ✔ Layer lighting—ambient, task, and accent—to flatter food, faces, and art. Art and Accessories That Transition Seasonal change doesn’t require a full redesign. Thoughtful edits keep a home dynamic while honoring its core aesthetic. ✔ Rotate ceramics, textiles, and sculptural objects to introduce autumnal tones. ✔ Swap lighter summer drapery for lined panels that add warmth and intimacy. ✔ Refresh vignettes with organic elements—branch arrangements, woven baskets, hammered bowls. Fall is an invitation to slow down and savor. We craft homes that adapt gracefully to the season—layered, welcoming, and tailored to the way you live. That’s the promise of Luxury that Lives Well. Mediterranean Iconic Showhouse

Mediterranean Iconic Showhouse Design showhouses are meant to be an opportunity for personal immersion in exciting, cutting-edge design, to be experienced by people who enjoy seeing fresh designs in person. However, this showhouse was scheduled to open just when Covid shut most everything down, and became a “Virtual” online showhouse. Although it wasn’t the exposure we had prepared for, we enjoyed the opportunity to create a stunning powder room, and a kitchen/morning room, both emphasizing Black as an accent color. The appliances with Rose Gold metal accents allowed us to stretch our design sensibilities and include this very special metal on the custom kitchen rangehood. Mountainside Desert Contemporary

Mountainside Desert Contemporary Our aesthetic vision for this new build was not only contemporary, but also organic and light-filled, embracing the surrounding Sonoran Desert and long-distance views. Our clients were repeat clients, this being the third project we’ve done together. A lot of personal preferences and lifestyle decisions went into making this home perfect for them. The house is on a steep hillside, with floor to ceiling windows front and back; embracing both distant and intimate desert views.  With so much glass and magnificent architectural detailing, we made sure the home was still warm and inviting, by selecting a stained wood ceiling, a porcelain flooring that mimics a light colored quartz which carries from inside to the patios front and back, and beautiful natural walnut millwork.  In the powder room, a special moment surprises guests with a sink carved out of a block of walnut wood, reminiscent of a puddle that has dried up in the desert.  Throughout the home, the gray/beige ledgestone moves from outside walls inside, and enhances the feeling of being one with the desert. Fall Inspirations: What’s Moving Janet into the Season

Fall Inspirations: What’s Moving Janet into the Season At Janet Brooks Design, the arrival of fall in the Valley of the Sun signals more than a change in temperature — it’s a shift in the way we think about living beautifully. The rich, warm colors of the season, softer sunlight, and cooler evenings invite a deeper connection to the spaces we create. For Janet and her team, fall is a chance to rethink textures, tones, and layouts so that homes feel not only elegant but also deeply attuned to this special time of year. 1. Embracing Seasonal Transitions Our work in fall focuses on creating spaces that flow effortlessly from indoor comfort to outdoor enjoyment. This means embracing flexible furniture arrangements, layering soft textiles, and finding ways to invite the beauty of the outdoors inside. ✔ Rich, warm color palettes that echo autumn’s landscape.✔ Layered textures — think plush throws, handwoven rugs, and artisan pillows.✔ Sliding glass doors and wide windows that frame seasonal sunsets. 2. Shifting Energy with Lighting As days shorten, lighting becomes one of the most powerful tools in our design toolkit. We balance functional lighting with mood-enhancing accents, ensuring spaces remain warm and inviting even after the sun dips below the horizon. ✔ Layered lighting plans that combine ambient, task, and accent lighting.✔ Statement fixtures that act as both illumination and art.✔ Warm LED tones to enhance comfort. 3. Honoring the Season’s Spirit Fall brings a spirit of gathering and reflection. Our designs this time of year often feature open spaces for entertaining, dining rooms that invite long conversations, and kitchens that make cooking a joy. ✔ Expansive dining tables paired with comfortable seating.✔ Natural materials like reclaimed wood and stone.✔ Subtle seasonal décor that complements, not competes with, the home’s overall style. By weaving these elements into our projects, we help clients experience their homes as living, breathing spaces that adapt to the rhythms of the season — the perfect example of Luxury That Lives Well. Icon at Silverleaf

Icon at Silverleaf When our clients, who were living in Silverleaf in North Scottsdale decided to downsize in Scottsdale and acquire homes in other great locations, it seemed like a natural to move a half mile away to a new condominium with views of the McDowell Mountains. They were coming from a large Tuscan home and eagerly embraced a much cleaner transitional design style. Gorgeous light fixtures and custom artwork provide personal touches that bring the classic furnishings and finishes to life. Behind the Scenes: How Janet Brooks Shops for Luxury Design

How Janet Brooks Sources and Shops for Luxury That Lives Well At Janet Brooks Design, every home we create is more than a visual statement — it’s a carefully curated experience built around how our clients live. One of the most rewarding and critical parts of our process is the art of shopping for and sourcing the right pieces — from bespoke furniture and lighting to artisanal materials and accessories. For us, shopping isn’t just about finding beautiful things — it’s about ensuring that every detail supports our philosophy of Luxury That Lives Well. Here’s a look at how Janet and her team shop with purpose to bring our clients’ homes to life. 1. Curating for Lifestyle, Not Just Looks We begin by deeply understanding our clients’ daily rhythms, entertaining styles, family needs, and personal preferences. This allows us to shop with intention, sourcing pieces that don’t just fill a room — they enhance life. ✔ Comfortable, heirloom-quality seating that invites gathering.✔ Rugs and fabrics that are both luxurious and durable.✔ Lighting that balances beauty with mood, function, and energy efficiency. This ensures that the spaces we design are not only stunning but also livable, comfortable, and resilient for years to come. 2. Sourcing Artisan and Custom Pieces Luxury at the highest level is rarely found on a showroom floor. Janet and her team regularly collaborate with artisans, craftspeople, and boutique vendors to create one-of-a-kind pieces tailored to each home. ✔ Custom lighting, tilework, cabinetry, and furniture designed specifically for each project.✔ Local and regional artisan pieces that reflect Arizona’s unique character and landscape.✔ Handmade textiles, wall coverings, and finishes that add depth and authenticity. By investing in artisan relationships, we ensure that no two Janet Brooks homes look alike — each one tells its own story. 3. Balancing Global Resources and Local Influence Our team travels, explores, and researches globally to stay on the leading edge of luxury design, but we never lose sight of the local soul of each project. ✔ We source from international design markets and brands to bring innovation and exclusivity.✔ We honor the Southwest’s rich design heritage by incorporating locally sourced stone, reclaimed wood, metalwork, and regional art.✔ We balance imported luxury with sustainable, ethical sourcing practices wherever possible. This thoughtful blend creates homes that are world-class yet grounded in place — a true embodiment of Luxury That Lives Well. 4. Prioritizing Quality, Longevity, and Craftsmanship For us, shopping isn’t about chasing trends — it’s about selecting timeless, high-quality pieces that age beautifully and serve our clients for years. ✔ We evaluate materials, construction methods, and manufacturer reputations carefully.✔ We look for pieces that perform well in Arizona’s unique climate — from sun exposure to temperature shifts.✔ We guide clients away from fast luxury and toward investments that offer long-term value and beauty. Because true luxury lives well today and tomorrow. 5. Creating the Unexpected Finally, shopping for a Janet Brooks Design project is never formulaic — it’s where magic and creativity come alive. Janet’s trained eye and years of experience allow her to select just the right bold accent, sculptural piece, or surprising material that elevates a space from beautiful to unforgettable. ✔ A handcrafted chandelier that becomes the focal point of a grand room.✔ A striking vintage find that adds history and soul.✔ An unexpected material or color that introduces personality and energy. These details are what make our projects feel uniquely personal and alive. Sedona Seven Canyons Retreat

Sedona Seven Canyons Retreat The rock formations in world-renowned Sedona, Arizona are breathtaking, no matter how you look at them. But as a backdrop to a home nestled in Sedona’s famous canyons, they add a 3-dimensional depth to the experience of each room.  The use of unabashed color in the interior palette of this home gives it a vibrant and exciting energy, blending with and complimenting the bold colors of Mother Nature outside…the greens of the Pinon trees and the golf course grass, the blue of the sky and the terra cotta/gold hues of the rock formations themselves. Our clients were inspired by the patterns and depth of color in custom Kyle Bunting hair on hide area rugs. Designing them was the starting point for our design process, leading to the selection of fabrics and furnishings to complete the picture. Our clients also owned a Native American portrait by Santa Fe artist, Stan Natchez, which greets visitors as they enter the home and sets the stage for this contemporary Southwestern jewel in the Red Rocks of Sedona.
