Pretty Up Your Patio for Spring & Summer

Pretty Up Your Patio for Spring & Summer Spring and Summer come faster to the Desert Southwest than most other parts of the country.  Janet Brooks Design is located in the beautiful northeast corner of Scottsdale, Arizona, so we are well aware that residents of this area and in fact, all people in the greater Phoenix area, are just about prepared for summer now.  This is the time of year where the wonder of indoor and outdoor living come together.  Pools are readied, grills and outdoor kitchens are tidied up and patios are swept to prepare for the season. We like to think that we can help you out by recommending a few tips to prepare and then enhance your outdoor areas to better enjoy the season.  Let’s start the fun by doing the prep work.  Not the most enjoyable part but we need to clean, maintain and evaluate before the design gets going.  Clearing and cleaning your patio surface, sweeping and washing the area including any walls, mulch or rocks is the best place to start. Cleaning and maintaining your outdoor furniture is next.  Wash any coverings and spray and scrub any of your metal, wood or composite furniture with mild detergent, cloths and brushes.  Rinse with a garden hose.  After cleaning, treat any wooden furniture or pieces with an oil or treatment meant for that particular type of wood.  If you have a grill, make sure to check for leaks or holes and replace if needed.  Scrub and clean the cooking surface and don’t forget to clean your utensils.  If you happen to have an outdoor kitchen, carefully clean and scrub all the surfaces with the items and solutions that the manufacturers recommend. Go through any storage areas in the patio, kitchen or grill area and check that you are stocked and operational for the outdoor seasons.  Restock your fuel if needed, whether propane, charcoal or wood – now’s the time to load them up.  Next insure any coverings, umbrellas and or awnings are cleaned, operational and maintained.  Check for any hiding pests.  It is the time to test anything that opens and retracts.  It is nice if they are functional and make sure to repair any items that have become tattered or weathered. Now the fun part.  Evaluate – take a look at what items need to be replaced, see what you would like to add and then do it.  Minimally, cozy up and pretty up with some nice outdoor rugs, with matching 3-D art, plants and accessories that will make you happy.  Desert plants are a must and terra cotta or other matching planters are a really pair nice.  Spruce up any existing plants and then even add some more to liven up and pretty up an area.  A nice outdoor rug will add comfort and color and protection to your space.  Match the area rug to some new comfortable outdoor furniture.  Add some beautiful and colorful cushions and pillows for seating and lounging comfort.  Use your best design judgement, have some fun, check out some examples that we have in our portfolio section and go to town making your space comfortable and beautiful. We are seeing now – the southwest trends have come back nationally.  The desert or southwestern design and style are back even stronger now.  So use our site as a guide to your design.  It is the 2023 trend and has replaced the “whites and greys” that had been the most recent fad in high-end design.  The desert palette which had become an accent and almost and after thought, is now back to being the style, the design and the theme. If you are looking to have a design team that owns professional interior design with southwestern flair, style and care – the staff here at Janet Brooks Design will be happy to talk to you about your next interior design need or project.  Call us – we would be happy to walk you through the process. Decorating Styles to Consider When Revamping Your Home

Decorating Styles to Consider When Revamping Your Home According to industry reports, the interior design sector contributes significantly to the economy, with billions of dollars in revenue generated annually. Homeowners undertake renovation projects for various reasons, whether to enhance visual appeal or customize amenities to suit their comfort requirements. Regardless of the motivation, revamping a home can foster a deeper connection to the space. Exploring different decorating styles can provide inspiration and guidance for a home revamp. Traditional design draws from classic European décor, incorporating antique furniture and intricate moldings for a timeless aesthetic. Symmetry is fundamental, instilling a sense of balance and refinement throughout the room. Conversely, contemporary style embraces simplicity and sophistication, characterized by clean lines, open spaces, and minimalist furnishings. Neutral tones and sleek metal accents contribute to a modern atmosphere that feels both sleek and welcoming. For those who favor minimalism and sleek lines, modern décor offers an appealing option. With its emphasis on simplicity and striking contrasts, modern design creates a polished and streamlined environment that exudes elegance. Transitional design provides a versatile approach, blending elements from modern, contemporary, and traditional styles. This allows for a seamless integration of textures, finishes, and furnishings, resulting in a space that feels both inviting and polished. Meanwhile, shabby-chic design infuses a home with vintage charm. Featuring distressed furniture, floral prints, and whitewashed floors, this style evokes a sense of nostalgia and warmth. Pendant light fixtures and soft textiles enhance the cozy ambiance. By exploring these decorating styles, homeowners can find inspiration for their own revamp projects. Whether drawn to the timeless allure of traditional design or the contemporary simplicity of modern style, the team at Janet Brooks Design is dedicated to bringing each client’s vision to life.

Decorating Tips to Make Your Home Feel New Again

Find your Perfect Design

Decorating Tips to Make Your Home Feel New Again Despite common beliefs, revitalizing your home decor doesn’t always require extensive effort. A subtle pop of color or strategic adjustments can breathe new life into your space. According to Lifehacker, maintaining the center of hanging art at eye level, between 56″ to 60″ from the floor, fosters harmony and modernizes your home. Let’s explore additional decorating ideas to rejuvenate your house. In modern home decor, a restrained color palette is typical, with vibrant hues reserved for accentuating focal points like artwork or unique features, while the rest of the space remains neutral, often in shades of white. Creatively incorporating these color highlights through switches or strategic paint choices can infuse freshness into your home. Updating light fixtures can dramatically transform the aesthetic of your space. Outdated fixtures can detract from the overall ambiance, while newer, stylish models offer a contemporary touch that elevates the look and feel of any room. Refreshing your tableware is an often-overlooked aspect of home decor. Aging dishes can detract from the overall appeal of your dining area, so investing in new pieces can instantly modernize your space. Choose tableware that complements your environment and reflects your personal style. Carpets and rugs, like other decor elements, can become outdated over time. Modern home decor tends to favor hardwood or ceramic flooring for a clean, fresh look. However, if you opt for a rug, select one with contemporary colors and minimalistic designs to enhance the modern aesthetic. Reducing clutter is essential for creating a sleek, modern atmosphere. Remove unnecessary knick-knacks and trinkets that can make a space feel dated and crowded. Embracing a minimalist approach will not only brighten your home but also make it easier to maintain cleanliness. Armed with these tips, you’re ready to revitalize your home and infuse it with newfound vibrancy. While some changes may be simple fixes, others may require the expertise of an interior designer or investment in new furniture. Contact the team at Janet Brooks Design to discover the perfect decor solutions for your home.

How to Choose the Best Interior Design For You!

Luxurious Adobe

How to Choose the Best Interior Design For You! As an experienced interior designer, I understand that selecting the right interior designer can be a pivotal decision in your life. Whether you are a homeowner, condo owner, building a new space, or renovating an existing one, finding a designer that resonates with your style is crucial. A qualified interior design firm considers budget, space, color, and style to create an environment that delights your senses. Whether you prefer a clean and open look, a tranquil atmosphere, or a richly decorated space, an educated and experienced designer can make it all possible. If you’re thinking of hiring an interior designer but aren’t sure what to look for, here are some considerations to help you make the right decision. When you begin your search for the right interior designer, a referral from friends or family or a quick internet search can be a great starting point. Look for designs that speak to your style preferences and start building a list of potential designers. Visiting design showcases in your neighborhood can also be helpful. If you see a style you love, find out who designed it and note their name. Be sure to check their reviews as well. As you narrow down your options, it’s important to ensure that your chosen designer is properly certified. Many states have specific requirements for the interior design industry, including substantial experience and an interior design degree. Professional certification guarantees they have met all the necessary education and experience criteria. Additionally, if your project involves construction and subcontractors, a certified designer will be knowledgeable about building codes and project management, which is a significant advantage. Establishing a workable budget is another crucial step, especially depending on the size and complexity of your project. Discuss your budget with an interior designer upfront. A qualified design team can help you set a realistic budget that aligns with your goals. This conversation will also help manage expectations and ensure that there are no surprises down the line. While considering your budget, it’s equally important to reflect on your personal style. Although most interior designers can adapt to their client’s style, it’s best to select a designer whose work you admire and can envision yourself living in. Style compatibility will make the design process smoother and more enjoyable. A designer familiar with various items and materials they’ve tested will also have valuable insights. According to The Robin Report, after a house and a car, furniture is generally the third most costly item a person will ever purchase. Therefore, hiring a designer who knows the current design trends and top furniture suppliers can make the project seamless and cost-effective. By using these quick tips, selecting an interior designer for your next project can be an enjoyable experience that stays within budget and on time. Ensure success by handpicking a designer who matches your design sensibility. If you have any questions or need further guidance, call the design team at Janet Brooks Design today. We’re here to help you create a space you’ll love.

What You Didn’t Know About the Interior Design Industry

Interior Design Industry

Drawing upon my extensive experience and expertise as an interior designer deeply immersed in the realm of innovative design, I’m constantly captivated by the intricate tapestry of evolving trends and dynamics shaping the industry. Let’s embark on a journey to uncover some fascinating insights into the multifaceted world of interior design that may surprise you. Many design specialists often chase trends to create stylish interiors that appeal to potential buyers. However, it’s crucial to be mindful of the transient nature of trends. While trendy designs may seem appealing initially, they can quickly become outdated, potentially impacting the resale value of your home. Instead, opting for a classic interior design look can provide long-lasting appeal and timeless elegance, resonating with a wider range of buyers. In regions with warm climates like Arizona, indoor-outdoor living spaces are incredibly popular. These versatile areas blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living, creating inviting spaces for relaxation and entertainment. Patio doors play a crucial role in these environments, seamlessly integrating the indoors with the outdoors while enhancing the overall aesthetic of the interior design. Despite the passage of time, the Southwestern Style has maintained its popularity since the 70s and 80s. Embracing neutral tones and incorporating warm accent colors can create a welcoming ambiance that appeals to prospective buyers. Elements such as wood accents, glass features, and tiled surfaces contribute to the distinctive charm of Southwestern-inspired interiors, making them desirable in today’s market. Engineered wood flooring has emerged as a beloved trend, offering a stylish alternative to traditional carpeting. Paired with fashionable area rugs for added color and warmth, engineered wood flooring enhances the aesthetic appeal of any space while providing durability and easy maintenance. Light fixtures play a pivotal role in defining the style and ambiance of your home. Whether you prefer modern, industrial, rustic, glam, or steampunk designs, selecting the right light fixtures can elevate your interior design to new heights. Consulting with a design professional can help you choose light fixtures that complement your aesthetic preferences and create a truly unique space. In the ever-changing landscape of the interior design industry, it’s essential to stay informed and adaptable.
